The 12 Gauge Dead legacy began somewhere in the very early spring of 2004 in Linköping when the Holmgren brothers and André Axell decided to do something with their until then pointless lives. The three of us shared a common interest, music, metal music in particular, and through this interest we began to rehearse at the local youth center. We were complete newbies at our instruments, Joel and André had just recently got their electric guitars and Aksel had previously played For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica along with some friends. We tried to play a few covers like Demon by Entomed and War Pigs by Sabbath. As you might suspect it sounded pretty damn rotten, so we started to write our own music and quickly we progressed into the world of making music. A friend of mine called Fredrik tried his skills on the bass for a few weeks but it didn't quite work, so he left, and thus, our very first line-up change (lets hope it'll be the last one too)! Shortly after this, we started to think about a singer, or a guy that roars as some might put it. We looked around a bit and eventually a friend of André called Magnus came by our rehersal place. We all still remember the smiles on our faces the first time he screamed his lungs out. Anyway, we managed to put some riffs together and wrote our very first song called The Unknown. With this peice of "music" we entered a "studio" (consisting of a portable four channel mixer and alot of cables/microphones) to record it. When we listened to the result of our efforts we felt genuinely happy, this was what we were going to do from now on, write music. After this the issue with a missing bassplayer became increasingly apparent, and again we searched and of course found nobody. The time for our second recording came to pass and this was the first time we worked with our now long time (he's been with us for the recording of all our proper demos) producer Johan Dyyk, a childhood friend of Joel and me. The second recording bears the name Tale of Salvation and it shows some progression from The Unknown. Time moved on and we got our first gig at Skylten, Linköping. We panicked over the missing bassplayer so a busy bassfriend of Magnus jumped in and played the gig with us, we all had a blast and the response was good. This was when things started to happen. We finally found the perfect bassplayer for the job after a night out drinking; Joel Ekman, and moved from the youth center to the more optimized rehearsal rooms in Skylten. Our third recording took place in Studio La Bomba with Dyyk, and it was called Greyscale. We got some more gigs and so forth and we entered a local band competition and finished in the semifinals. During that time we wrote some more and during January 2006 we recorded for the fourth time, the creation came to be called Beneath our wings. We got some good response and managed to get a gig at Sweden Rock Festival at their demo stage. As times have moved on we have played at most clubs in Linköping and some clubs in neighbouring towns and things are really starting (we think) to take off for us. Just recently we recorded a new demo, titled Circles, and it sounds better than ever! Stay true, 12GD.
