ORDEAL was founded in ‘91. The band called themselves PAGAN at the time. The music was best described as grind-core. As their music evolved and became more technical it was eventually best labelled as death metal. The music was, and still is strongly influenced by bands as Morbid Angel, Death, Cynic, Malevolent Creation, Atheist and many others. In ’95 Ordeal recorded their first demo ‘Pagan’ (as a reference to their old band name) at the Cavern studios in Antwerp. But then disaster struck. Just as the band was evolving and becoming successful, Paul (the main songwriter and vocalist) died (RIP 16/05/1999). This dramatic event was a major setback for Ordeal. But more than that, a member of our ‘family’ was lost. The band decided to carry on, but Paul wasn’t easy to replace. Eventually new blood was found and the new Ordeal was ready to start all over again. In November 2003, Ordeal recorded their second demo called ‘Flee’. Flee was a song from the first demo and they used the title as a tribute to Paul. December 2006 saw the release of Ordeal’s first full CD. ‘Atrocities’ features 12 songs and a bonus track. It was released by Shiver Records and features a good variation of songs that will appeal to a wide audience. That is if they are into some brutal death metal.
