PURGATORY started official in the beginning of 1993 as the continuation of the bands MUSICAL MASSACRE and PROCESSION. From MUSICAL MASSACRE came the foundation members Uwe (bass) and René (guit./ voc.) and PROCESSION contributed Lutz (drums) for the new band. Till the split of this two bands was PURGATORY only a project with insignificant attention. In October 1993 PURGATORY recorded their first demo tape which was a live recording called “Live … Perversion”. A half year later the band released the first single: In March 1994 came the debut 7” Ep “Psychopathia Sexualis” on PERVERTED TASTE RECORDS. In August 1994 arrived Sick from DARK DECADE as the new vocalist. With him followed in the beginning 1995 the second 7” Ep “Sadistic Spell” – also on PERVERTED TASTE REC – where PURGATORY refined their style and improved their sound. Their first CD “Damage Done By Worms” was released finally in October 1996. A next climax was the first more bigger tour with VADER but short time later Uwe left the band. As a substitute on bass came Usche who had played guitar before in the deathmetal band DARK DECADE too. In the beginning of 1997 PURGATORY released the split Ep with the band SEIRIM. In the end of the same year followed their second full time CD “Bestial”. This was following promoted on tour with IMPENDING DOOM and COERCION and later with VADER. 1999 there was new bass – change: Torsten came from APROSOPY and adapted at once in the preparations of the impending CD which in Mai 2000 was recorded. Released in September 2000 followed with the third CD “Blessed With Flames Of Hate” again a trendless, brutal and fast album – again at PERVERTED TASTE REC. It follows a lot of gigs and tours among others with SEIRIM, AMON AMARTH, VADER, PENTACLE, CENTURIAN and a lot of others more. During the studiosession for „Blessed With Flames Of Hate“ CD PURGATORY also recorded two coverversions of AUTOPSY and TERRORIZER for a split Ep with the german band CHARON. On the strength of different organizational problems was the release of the scheduled 10” split retarded till the year 2003 and appeared in the end under G.U.C. (German Undergrund Crossection) together with the deathmetal band POLYMORPH. Since December 2002 is Torsten no longer a member of PURGATORY and Andy, from the band WARSPITE coming, took over his part on the bass. After more than 10 years cooperation with PERVERTED TASTE we changed the label and signed by ANIMATE Records in May 2004. With the new label in the back PURGATORY released the fourth album "Luciferianism" in August 2004. After more than 10-year-old collaboration PURGATORY and singer Sick go of separate ways since April 2005. In Mirko Dreier (ex-SEIRIM) we already found a substitute for Sick. In January 2006, we went on a European tour together with CENTINEX (SWE) and HYPNÖS (CZ). In April 2006 we went to Malta for a show. Line up change in February 2007: Bass player Andy leaves the band for personal reasons and is substituted by Peter! PURGATORY played a lot of live shows in Germany, Cech. Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Spain, England, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Netherland, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland with ASPHYX, VADER, CANNIBAL CORPSE, PROTECTOR, COERCION, NAPALM DEATH, ENTOMBED, GOREROTTED, EDGE OF SANITY, PANDEMIA, KRABATHOR, HYPNOS, KRISIUN, AVULSED, HARMONY DIES, SINISTER, CENTINEX, EXMORTEM, VIU DRAKH, NILE, BEHEADED...etc. and PURGATORY works at any time hard to intense their way of “pure Death fuckin´ Metal” and never they followed any trends !
